My Values

A commitment to doing better

My mission for Hearth Birth Services is to walk beside people through all facets of their reproductive and parenthood journeys, in the hopes that I might be an ally in the fight for Reproductive Justice for all.

I believe that Advocacy, Intersectionality and Reproductive Justice are foundational in birth work. I am committed to integrating these values into my life and work.

I believe that individuals are the experts on themselves and value the diversity and unique experiences of all people.

I believe that abortion is healthcare, no matter the reason. That the choice to decide when or if to have a family is a basic human right. I believe that not wanting to have children is just as much of a beautiful and important path as deciding to have them.

I know that systemic racism is at the root of the incredibly high mortality rate for Black and Indigenous birthing people, as well as other POC communities. I believe that the best way to help is by giving help that is actually asked for. I endeavour to listen to BIPOC leaders and communities and help them in the ways that they’ve asked for help.

I am committed to providing affirming and thoughtful care to all people, acknowledging and celebrating the unique needs of those in our community. This is inclusive of all races, genders, gender expressions, bodies, sexualities, spiritualities, relationships, and lived experiences.

I recognize the additional barriers to reproductive services faced by many of these communities and I commit to providing care in a way that is accessible, inclusive, and centred on the needs of the individual. I am committed to centring and uplifting the needs of communities that have long been overlooked. This applies, not just to my clients, but to other birth workers in my community.

I recognize that I am not the doula for everyone. If you need help finding a doula that better aligns with your lived experiences, reach out to me directly and I will do my very best to help you find someone that you feel safe with.

I acknowledge my privilege, and the many ways in which I have been complicit in (and benefitted from) the systems of oppression that operate in our society. I am committed to interrogating these biases and learned ideologies. To the continued unlearning of these systems. To uplifting and amplifying the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, and those with special access needs. To continue to seek out learning opportunities that will aid me in these endeavours. To being, not just an ally, but an accomplice.

I welcome feedback on my efforts in this area at any time and I take any insights very seriously.
